Safety

*Safety of all participants is important to us.  Please help by following these rules.

Runners

[1]  Run against traffic:  Stick to the left side of the road unless specifically instructed otherwise in the leg description.
[2]  Earphones:  Keep the volume reasonably low or keep one earphone out in order to hear what’s going on around you.
[3]  Water and food:  Each runner is in charge of his/her own food and drink along the course.  There are no services or aid stations along the way, so carry enough in the support vehicle to last the whole race.
[4]  No vehicle interaction with runners:  Unless an injury occurs, there should be no interaction between the vehicle and the runner.  For the safety of everyone, the vehicles need to keep moving.
[5]  Course directions:  The course directions are specific and included in the registration packet.  Follow them closely to have the best experience.  If there are any changes to the course, you will be informed at the starting line.
[6]  Race officials:  Listen to race officials along the course and be respectful of them.

Vehicles

[1]  Cell phones:  Each vehicle must have at least one cell phone to be used in case of an emergency.
[2]  Only 1 vehicle per team:  Each team will only be allowed 1 support vehicle.  No RVs, trailers, or vehicles larger than 7 feet wide will be allowed to drive the course.
[3]  Vehicle number:  The vehicle number (which is included in the registration packet) must be displayed in the front window at all times during the race.  Only vehicles with numbers displayed will be allowed to park at exchange zones and drive the course.
[4]  No stopping:  Since the course road is very narrow in some areas, vehicles are required to keep moving and stop only in designated parking areas at the exchange points.  No bike support or vehicle shadowing of runners is allowed during the race.
[5]  Obey all traffic rules:  Traffic rules must be followed.  Obey speed limit signs and use caution to avoid accidents.
[6]  Yield to runners:  Vehicles must always yield to runners.
[7]  Parking:  Park only in designated areas at exchange zones.  If it is necessary to park otherwise, keep to the right side of the road.  There will be a lot of runners and traffic on this narrow mountain road, so avoid parking on the road if possible.
[8]  Full tank of gasoline:  There are no services provided along the course of the race, so come prepared with a full tank of gas.
[9]  First aid kit:  Each vehicle is required to have a first aid kit in case the need arises.

Runners and Vehicles

[1]  No littering:  This course runs through Forest Service, BLM, and State Lands as well as private property.  Please keep your trash picked up so we can continue to have permission to run through this area.
[2]  Bathrooms:  Portable toilets will be at exchange zones as well as at the start and finish line.  Please use the designated bathrooms only.

Emergency

[1]  First Aid Stations:  A Fist Aid Station will be placed at the midpoint of the course (exchange 6) and at the end of the race.  They will be equipped to handle blisters, pulled muscles, and minor heat exhaustion.
[2]  911:  If there is an emergency requiring major medical help, it is your responsibility to call 911.  If your cell phone is not working, contact the closest exchange zone race official who can assist you in contacting 911.

*Violation of any of these rules may result in team disqualification or time penalties.
